Krix Cinematix

Krix Cinematix is a freestanding 3-way home cinema speaker designed for medium to large dedicated cinema rooms. It is intended for use as a main front speaker, combining large low-frequency drivers with dedicated midrange and high-frequency sections.

1. Krix Cinematix for Dedicated Cinema Rooms

Dedicated cinemas place specific demands on front speakers. Dialogue, music and effects must remain well integrated across the listening area. Cinematix addresses these requirements with a three-way design that assigns low, mid and high frequencies to separate driver sections.

The dedicated midrange section focuses on the 1kHz–3kHz region, which Krix identifies as important for speech intelligibility. This gives the speaker a defined role in the front stage of a professionally designed cinema.

2. Three-Way Engineering

The bass section uses two 380mm high-stiffness paper cone drivers with 77mm voice coils. The front-vented bass reflex enclosure forms part of the speaker’s low-frequency system.

Mid frequencies are handled by a 165mm curvilinear paper cone driver mounted to a 90° x 40° constant-directivity horn. The high-frequency section uses a compression driver with a Krix-designed 90° x 40° short-throw horn.

The controlled horn pattern helps direct sound toward the intended listening area while managing the spread of higher-frequency energy within the room.

3. Cinema System Integration

Cinematix has a specified sensitivity of 101dB for 2.83 volts at one metre, a nominal impedance of 4 Ohms and a recommended maximum amplifier power of 1000 Watts RMS. These specifications help the cinema designer select suitable amplification and system components.

Its specified 38Hz–16kHz in-room response covers a substantial portion of the frequency range used in film sound. The speaker is designed to operate as part of a complete cinema system rather than as an isolated component.

4. Installation and Room Planning

Measuring 1990mm high, 660mm wide and 460mm deep, and weighing 83kg each, Cinematix requires careful consideration during room planning. Screen position, seating, speaker placement and acoustic treatment should be coordinated from the beginning.

The horn assemblies are mounted to the bass cabinet with a solid bracket that allows vertical and horizontal adjustment. Krix specifies a 1600Hz passive MID/HF crossover, with a separate electronic crossover network required between the bass driver and horn elements.
